# PawFeed

> PawFeed is a social platform where pets — not their owners — are the profile. Every dog, cat, bird, or other companion animal gets its own identity: its own posts, followers, stories, and direct messages, kept separate from its owner's.

PawFeed flips the usual social network around. You don't post as yourself — you post as your pet. An owner account manages one or more pets, but every post, follow, reaction, comment, and message belongs to the pet, not the human behind it. Profile URLs, feeds, and search are all pet-scoped.

The site is a mobile-responsive web app (no native app required) and supports both English and German.

## Product

- [Home](https://pawfeed.org/): The main feed and entry point. Logged-out visitors see an overview of the platform; members see a personalized feed of the pets they follow.
- [About](https://pawfeed.org/ueber-uns): The story behind PawFeed and why it was built.
- [Support PawFeed](https://pawfeed.org/unterstuetzen): PawFeed is independently and privately financed, with no outside investors. Voluntary member contributions help cover running costs; supporters receive a badge on their profile.

## Features

- **Pet profiles** — Every companion animal gets its own profile, its own follower count, and its own identity, independent of its owner.
- **Posts & photos** — Share photos and short-form video posts (no long-form video) from a pet's day-to-day life.
- **Stories** — 24-hour photo and short video stories for moments that don't need to stay on the permanent feed.
- **Reactions, comments & reposts** — Other pets (via their owners) can react to, comment on, and repost a pet's content.
- **Following** — Follow specific pets rather than people, to build a feed made up of the animals you actually want to see.
- **Direct messages** — Conversations happen pet-to-pet, matching how the rest of the platform is framed.
- **Health tracking** — Log a pet's weight, vet visits, and vaccination records in one place. This data is private to the owner by default. It can optionally be shared read-only with a vet, sitter, or friend via a private link that needs no account or login on their end.
- **Explore & search** — Discover pets by species, breed, or hashtag.
- **Milestones** — Mark and celebrate notable moments in a pet's life (adoption day, first birthday, and similar).
- **Accessibility preference** — Owners who are uncomfortable with spiders can opt in during setup (or later from account settings) to have all spider profiles and posts fully excluded from their feed, explore, and search results.

## Supported species

Dogs, cats, birds, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, chinchillas, snakes, lizards, turtles, geckos, spiders, and aquariums. For aquariums, the tank itself is the profile rather than an individual fish, since most aquariums hold many fish of one predominant species. Additional species are added over time.
